2008 is history

2008 was a big year at work, so not a very big year for no clue productions. I didn't get any new videos posted, so the website didn't get updated too much. I still have things that I want to do, but need to carve out more time to do it. My web series "no clue quickie" was booted from iTunes because I hadn't produced any new episodes, but I will try to get it back in there once I've got something new to share.

2008 was a big year for me personally. I had lots of ups and downs, but my biggest online presence was social networking. I tried out Facebook and loved it. Me and facebook and the iPhone are all over it. I also joined Twitter and I try to stay active on both.

But now that 2008 is history, i thought I'd at least share some of my favorite movies of the year. The best was The Dark Knight. Christopher Nolan directed in my opinion a masterpiece movie that just so happened to have the comic book character of Batman at its core. It was brilliant. Other movies I enjoyed immensely were Iron Man, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, WALL-E, Bolt, Into the Wild, No Country for Old Men and Juno. Movies that I thought were good, but not really great were Eagle Eye, Role Models, The Incredible Hulk, There Will Be Blood, Superbad, The Pineapple Express, Cloverfield, Quantum of Solace, Kung Fu Panda, American Teen, Hancock and Jumper. I loved the 3D in Journey to the Center of the Earth, but didn't love the movie. Some disappointing flicks were Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Harold and Kumar 2, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The movie I hated the most was Step Brothers. It was a funny concept with great actors, but a very unfunny movie in my opinion. I also loved Sunshine, which I saw on DVD this year. Fantastic.

So even though the economy is in the crapper right now, enjoy your holiday season and let's hope that I can too. I'll be back in 2009 for more blogging fun.

Let's also hope that the Buffalo Sabres can get it together. They haven't been playing too well lately, but did manage to get a win recently which looked good.

Happy Holidays!

Profiting from Piracy

Check out this article. Studios are intending to embed ads into any videos on the web that feature copyrighted content. I find this very interesting. It may allow for much more posting of copyrighted material by individuals and change the online world of what's considered piracy a bit. Very interesting to me.

TiVo and Netflix together

Here's an article about the new partnership with TiVo and Netflix subscribers. Basically, if you've got a newer TiVo that can stream internet content, you'll soon be able to stream movies in your Queue from Netflix that are available for instant viewing. You must be a subscriber of both services to take advantage.

I think this is a great idea for both companies. I've been intrigued to try Netflix's instant view service, but since I have an older Mac and didn't want to buy a Roku player (who needs another box in their media center) I was shut out. This will help me greatly to have more entertainment options.

Hey Madonna - I'm available

It appears that Madonna is divorcing Guy Ritchie. To this I say Madonna, I'm available. I know you're 50, but you're Madonna. I'm not talking marriage, just a quick fling since I know that you're rich and famous. But if you feel like slumming it, send me an email.

Genius - PG Porn

Here's a video that I found because one of my friends on Facebook linked me to it. It's freaking hilarious. It stars Nathan Fillion (of Firefly & Buffy fame) and Aria Giovanni (Porn Star) and is directed by James Gunn. Just plain genius and I laughed out loud.

Turn your PC into a TiVo

It appears that TiVo wants to exist in whatever form it can worldwide. I think it speaks to more things to come from this innovative company. I love my TiVo and couldn't live without it. I tried and used a cable company DVR for awhile and it's just not the same. Anyway, TiVo is making software for your PC that turns your PC into a TiVo. Maybe TiVo and Apple can start talking about a mac based TiVo. I would buy it in a heartbeat. Much more desirable than an Apple TV. Anyway, here's the article. I'm sure that this isn't earth shattering and that many people have tweaked their TiVo's in the past, but this is the first real attempt by the company to expand beyond selling TiVo boxes.

Buffalo a Top Sports Town

Growing up in the area, I already knew this, but now there is another ranking that talks about how passionate sports fans are in Buffalo, supporting teams like the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, Buffalo Bandits, Buffalo Bisons, etc. Check out the article.

Apple's Let's Rock Event

Apple had their Let's Rock Event yesterday. While most of the late predictions came true, there were some surprises. I'm excited about the new Nanos since I was thinking of getting a new one soon anyway. My headphone jack is kind of worn out and now I don't hear clean music through my nano anymore. I'm also excited to use the new iTunes 8. I'm just starting to play with it now since I downloaded it last night. OK, well here's a ton more info if you're interested.

study shows that DVR's save relationships

Check out this article. Yet another positive nod for DVR's. I would say that 90% more people enjoy their TiVo's more than a cable DVR. I know I did. But check out the article.

american idol is getting a new judge

Not sure how i feel about this, but we'll see what happens. American Idol is getting a new judge this season which starts in January. I think it's just a way to keep it fresh this year, since the format hasn't been shaken up too much lately. We'll see what happens. Read the article.

buffy the vampire slayer animated

This sounds like it could be a fun idea for an animated series. I'd check it out. Right now, it's just an idea. It was leaked on youtube a few weeks ago. HMM.... Maybe Joss Whedon is thinking more about it or it's just a dead project so they figured why not show everyone what it was. This was apparently a pilot that was shown to industry execs a few years ago, but they all passed.

If you want to know more about this creation, click here. Later.

star sightings at work this week

This isn't a normal occurrence for me even though I work and live in Burbank, CA. Spotted a few stars having meetings at my work building.

Rode the elevator with Finola Hughes.

Saw Brian McKnight in the lobby. I was wondering what he was doing there. Maybe he's composing a theme song for a new Disney Channel show. Who knows!

I also think I saw Lucas Grabeel of High School Musical fame, having coffee at our Starbucks, but I can't be 100% positive.

And it's only Tuesday. I didn't stop to talk with anyone. I don't like to be bothered at work, so I figured that they wouldn't want to be bothered either. later

Congratulations Michael Phelps. You deserve everything that you have accomplished. Thank you for showing all of us that if you set your mind to something that even seems impossible, that goals can come true. Dr Horrible is AWESOME!

Joss Whedon of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly fame has a new creation created during the writer's strike just for the internet and it's out now. It's called Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. It's very funny (especially Nathan Fillion as Captain Hammer) and has got the same musical style as the Buffy Once More with Feeling episode.

You should check it out.
Here's a review.
Here's a link to the website to watch it. It's only online until Sunday.
You can also download it on iTunes. It's only $4 for all 3 episodes.

Here's a teaser.

Another Idol Shocker! Carly Smithson voted off!

Sadly, Carly Smithson was voted off American Idol Tonight. I was a little bummed out by this one. I mean Michael Johns going early was surprising, but Carly gave one of her best performances last night. She had been suffering from trying really hard to impress and last night, she just put her heart in it and laid it out. I was betting that Jason Castro was going home. His laid back musical style can only go so far in my book, but he's now in the Top 5 and Carly is out. I really thought that Carly would be the last woman standing. My money is on David Cook this year, because he's so versatile and always delivers a great performance. He's had 3 outstanding performances so far this season. "Hello", "Billie Jean" and "Always Be My Baby". His "Music of the Night" wasn't bad last night either. I guess you can't count out the little David Archuletta either, but I'm pulling for David Cook. Oh well, I'll write more about Idol another time, but please enjoy this performance by Carly, since we won't be seeing her anymore this season. I think she'll be back with a record at some point and I'll pick it up.
